FAQs

How does Sentinel design and spec a project?

We use aerial imagery to model roof space and shading and take into account setbacks and other obstructions. Working with the homeowner’s goals and budget, we design a system for them. We use conservative estimates for cost (including monthly loan payments if financed) and energy production so that you can exceed the homeowner’s expectations.

What modules do you use for your design and energy modeling?

We will spec a standard or premium module with a minimum wattage and you would quote each project with your preferred modules meeting that spec. We use one of the two generic module specs below for physical space, system wattage and energy generation estimates. Again, we use conservative estimates so that you can exceed the homeowner’s expectations.

Type Based on Minimum wattage Dimensions (mm) 25 yr power
Standard Q Cells Duo G6 340 1740 x 1030 80% of initial
Premium LG Neon R-V5 370 1700 x 1016 88% of initial

What happens if Sentinel’s project spec is inaccurate?

We use the most accurate and recent aerial imagery available and are conservative in our placement of solar panels with respect to space on the roof. In addition, we require homeowners to upload photos of their roof, main panel and any subpanels so that we can assess the full scope of work. But there will be times when the site conditions don’t exactly match the information we based our design and spec on. In those cases, we allow the homeowner to choose whether they would like Sentinel to update the project spec and re-issue the request for bids or whether they would like to continue with the current quotes and contractors. If the project spec is updated and a second bid is required, Sentinel does not charge a fee for the second bid.

How much does it cost?

Sentinel only charges flat fees. A small fee is paid to process each bid and a larger referral fee is charged if the homeowner chooses you to complete their project. Bid fees are due upon submission of your project bid. Referral fees are due 30 days after you sign a contract.

Project type Bid fee Referral fee
Solar only $40 $500
Solar + roof $45 $600
Solar + battery $50 $850
Solar + roof + battery $60 $1,100

NOTE: Any project may include a main panel upgrade. There is no additional fee for projects which include main panel upgrades

Do I have to bid on all projects or all parts of a project?

Sentinel strongly encourages our partners to bid on projects where the homeowner has selected them to bid. But if a project doesn’t make sense for you, we can’t and won’t try to force you to bid on it. For projects that include a roof or battery, each are quoted as a separate line item so while you can bid on just the part(s) of the project that you’re able to complete, the more parts of the project you can complete, the stronger your bid will be.
